The Income Tax Department issues 80g certificates online to non-profit organizations under the Income Tax Act of 1961. The 80G Registration grant’s primary objective is to attract more people to donate money to charities. Furthermore, the donors are excused from paying 50% of their total taxable income in taxes. To qualify for exemption the donor needs to attach the stamped receipt to the donation given by the NGO.
1. 12A and 80G Registration are advisable for all NGOs, whether a Trust, Society or a Section 8 Company.
2.12A and 80G Registration are the two Registration issued by IT Department to NGOs to allow them in Tax Exemption and deduction on donations by the donors.
3. NGOs with 12A Registration can claim a complete exemption from the IT (Income Tax) Department. However, those with 80G Registration Certificate get the advantage of attracting more donors to the organization by donating funds.
Eligibility Criteria for 80G Registration
Following eligibility criteria are required :-
- The organization must be a registered NGO
- NGO assets should only be used for charitable purposes
- This clause applies to NGOs that operate as Public Charitable Trusts or under Section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956, and act solely for the public good.
- Tax exemption is available for donations made in accordance with Section 80G.
- It can be applied only after Section 12AB registration.

- Copy of PAN card of the directors / trustees
- Copy of Aadhaar Card of the directors / trustees
- Digital signature of one of the directors / trustees
- By Laws of this company, AOA, MOA copies
- Audit reports for all financial years since incorporation
- Audited Financials for all financial years since incorporation
- Trust Deed, in case the NGO is a Trust
- NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the property owner if the office is located on a rented property
- A complete list of welfare activities
- PAN card of NGO
